Call for papers

We invite colleagues to take a look at the list of topics and consider submitting an abstract for evaluation. The SIMPLY2010 Conference will select papers basing on these abstracts. The abstracts should be submitted to the conference email address stat.eu2010@economie.fgov.be by 15 May 2010. Their length should not exceed 200 words in either MS-Word (.doc) or pdf format. The authors will be informed of acceptance by 1 June 2010. Instructions for final papers will be provided at the same time.

Topics

The Conference encompasses relevant topics for reducing the administrative burden caused by official statistics and the methods official statistics can supply for reducing the administrative burden caused by other administrations. For example, the following topics will be covered by the Conference:

  1. Reducing the administrative burden caused by official statistics

    a. Measurement of response burden

    b. Statistical methods and tools to tackle response burden

    c. Technological solutions to reduce response burden

  2. The Case of the Census

    a. National solutions for data collection of the Census

    b. Use of, access to and quality of administrative registers

    c. Alternative methods of data collection

  3. Limits of administrative simplification

    a. When are surveys really needed?

    b. Criteria for abolishing and preserving statistics

  4. Use of Official Statistics for reducing the administrative burden caused by other administrations

    a. Statistical results as a substitute for administrative data collection

    b. Use of statistical methods in administration

    c. Promoting the use of statistics in other administrations
